Tilt of the camera, real 3D navigation and non-north oriented view
Allow to tilt the camera and move in 3D space in any direction.
Note: This is technically possible, problematic is just calculation of the field of view and correct loading of the visible tiles.
The implementation of segmentedplane would need to be refactored to support LoD textures - for lower resolution tiles in distant areas.
Done. All the code is in GIT already. It is going to be exported to JavaScript API soon.

The terrain data will also be handy. WorldWind terrain data (SRTM + Aster) can be fetched from NASA servers.

I've been working on something similar for a while now that supports camera tilt. Take a look at lanyard.geom.ViewFrustum and lanyard.BasicOrbitView at https://github.com/fintler/lanyard It might give you some ideas. It's written in Google Closure and I'm also trying to keep the code under GPLv3 as much as possible.
